Staying on the banks of the Rhine in Beautiful Boppard, join us on this relaxing but fascinating tour, direct to the hotel (no overnight stops). Highlights include: 3 scenic cruises, the Drachenfelsbahn, Germany’s oldest cog railway, cable car to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress heritage site, visits to Ahrweiler, Bad Münstereifel and Bonn’s famous Haribo factory.

 

Tour Itinerary

           

Thursday – Our luxury coach will depart this morning, and head to Folkestone for our Eurotunnel crossing to Calais. We make our way to our hotel in Boppard with a welcome glass of wine before dinner. Comfort stops on route.

 

Friday – Today we take you to Koblenz and begin our day with a breath-taking cable car ride above the Rhine to the Ehrenbreitstein Fortress. Enjoy spectacular views of the UNESCO ‘upper middle Rhine valley’ world heritage site from one of eighteen panoramic enclosed cars. We are including entrance to the museum and there will be time to have lunch in the restaurant if you wish before we return via cable car down to the river for a relaxing cruise to see some of the beautiful German castles and fortresses that stand on the banks of this beautiful stretch of the Rhine. Our cruise will take us directly back to our hotel in Boppard.

 

Saturday – A day free of coach travel today as we catch a boat from the landing stage outside our hotel and enjoy a scenic cruise up to the Lorelei Rock. Returning via St Goer, we will leave the boat for an opportunity for lunch before re-joining it to take us back to the hotel for coffee and cake on the terrace.

 

Sunday – Today we take a scenic drive and visit the romantic walled town of Ahrweiler tucked away in the Ahr valley. The ‘Old Town’ is a car-free zone, which offers the opportunity of a relaxed walk around the picturesque sleepy half-timbered houses, the market square characterized by Saint Laurentius, the first hall church in the Rhineland, from the early Gothic period, as well as the unique town hall which dates back to 1778. We continue this afternoon to another small historical spa town, Bad Münstereifel, with its charming traditional shops and little roadside cafés and restaurants, a chance to indulge in the local pastries!

 

Monday – Today is a free day for you to relax and enjoy the lovely town of Boppard, you may wish to join us for a walking tour of the town or take the little road train around the town for a 25-minute tour with commentary.

 

Tuesday – This morning we take you to Königswinter, located at the foot of the Drachenfelsbahn, Germanys oldest cog railway for a return journey from the valley station to the summit covering a height difference of 220mt. At the top we’ll see the ruined dragon’s cliff castle with great views across the River Rhine. This afternoon we continue to nearby Bonn with a fun visit to the Haribo factory outlet. This famous German confectionery company with its hundreds of gummy candy varieties that since 1922 has become world popular with children and adults alike. Time to stock up at reduced prices!

 

Wednesday – Today we have a coach free day. From the landing point close to our hotel we take a boat for a 4hr cruise to the lovely town of Rüdesheim. You will have a few hours to explore this famous old town with its famous Drosselgasse area or maybe take the cable car up to the Niederwald monument. We return to the hotel on the boat again but following the flow of the river bringing us back in time to relax before dinner.

 

Thursday – Time to leave Germany and retrace our steps back to Calais for our crossing on the Eurotunnel. Comfort stops on route to our waiting taxis.
