Cruising the Danube through Austria, Slovakia and Hungary is often referred to as the best cultural river cruise experience in Europe, passing through the great cities of Vienna, Budapest and Bratislava. This part of the Danube also includes fabulous landscapes and scenery, to rival those of the Rhine! This year we are upgrading our cruise ship to the MS Arena, which is a superior ship to the MS Esmerelda that we have used in previous years. All the cabins on board feature outward facing floor to ceiling panoramic windows with French balconies, allowing you to take in the wonderful views of the river from the comfort of your own cabin.

 

Tour Itinerary

           

Tuesday – We depart Wiltshire, and head down to Folkestone on our luxury coach for our Eurotunnel crossing to Calais, we continue onto Cologne for our overnight hotel and tonight’s evening meal. Comfort stops on route.

 

Wednesday – After breakfast, this morning our coach will continue its journey down to Passau where our boat will be waiting to begin our cruise! We will be welcomed onboard to a reception. The ship sails overnight to reach Melk by morning.

 

Thursday – The ship is moored in Melk allowing an optional excursion if you choose. It then departs Melk while we enjoy lunch on board and sails to Vienna where it will be docked until early evening tomorrow.

 

Friday – A day docked in Vienna for those that wish to explore or take the optional excursion. This evening the ship sails overnight to arrive in Budapest late morning tomorrow.

 

Saturday – A day docked in Budapest with an optional excursion or explore independently.

 

Sunday – Today the ship will leave Budapest at lunchtime to sail to Bratislava, arriving early next morning.

 

Monday – By the time you wake this morning the ship will be docked in Bratislava and will remain until early evening when it departs for Dürnstein. Excursions for Bratislava available. The ship sails overnight.

 

Tuesday – This morning we arrive in Dürnstein where it will dock until lunch time, then set sail once again to Passau. Arriving next morning.

 

Wednesday – Today we arrive in Passau and after breakfast onboard we sadly say goodbye to the MS Arena and re-join the coach for our overnight in Cologne.

 

Thursday – After breakfast this morning we continue up to Calais and Eurotunnel back to the UK. Comfort stops on-route. Once back in the UK we head to Wiltshire and your waiting taxis after a memorable cruise on the Danube.

This 4* ship has all the ingredients for an unforgettable cruise. With all cabins boasting floor to ceiling panoramic windows with French balconies, en-suite bathroom, air conditioning, TV, telephone, hairdryer and safe all as standard. You may wish to upgrade to middle deck superior or upper deck cabins at a supplement per cabin, ask for details. The ship has an Ambassadors lounge, sundeck, library, fitness suite and onboard shop. There is also complimentary WiFi on board. Please note that this ship does not have a lift/stair lift.

We believe that a river cruise is a perfect way to relax and unwind but if you wish to enhance your holiday experience, we are offering a range of excursions that allow you to discover the history of our ports of call. An opportunity to complement your cruise itinerary, but the choice is yours, whether you indulge in one or two, or the whole package, we feel its only fair for each individual to decide which, if any excursions they wish to purchase.

Melk Abbey – Discover one of the worlds most famous monastic sites, Melk Abbey our guided tour shows you the highlights of this magnificent Marble Hall, Emperors Gallery and Abbey church. This does involve some walking and steps. Price £33pp

 

Vienna City Tour – A perfect introduction to Vienna, this tour focuses on the historic centre and its rich architecture. This does involve an element of walking on this tour. Price £32pp

 

Belvedere Palace – This stunning Baroque building made up of two palaces, an orangery and the palace stables, and fine collections of art. Easy walk from coach to palace but approx. 10 steps into palace and between floors. Price £42pp

 

Budapest City Tour – Accompanied by a local guide, you will discover the most beautiful areas of this architectural gem by coach. This tour lasts approx. 3hrs – you will get to see both sides of Buda and Pest. Price £25pp

 

Budapest by night – Experience a piece of Hungarian culture at a folklore show and enjoy gypsy music, dancing and schnapps before taking a tour to admire night-time views. There is a short walk from the coach to the venue, but it is a slope and it will be in the dark. Price £44pp

 

Puszta Horse Show – Travelling through the sweeping plains of Hungary to Lajosmizse, visit a stud farm and take a tour in a horse drawn carriage, before watching an approx.1hr spectacular live show performed in an open-air arena. It takes 1hr to get to the ranch by coach with your guide. On arrival you will be greeted with a drink & a scone. Free time after the show to visit stables and museum. Price £45pp

 

Bratislava Walking Tour and Chocolate Experience – Your guided tour allows you to explore the charming squares, courtyards and narrow lanes of the Slovakian capital. The pedestrian zone in the old town allows exploring on foot safe and relaxing. You will also sample the sweet delicacy ‘makova’ as well. Price £28pp
